Delta Airlines sent Mo Farah to the back of the queue as he waited to board his flight home from Rio, refusing to acknowledge he had a business-class ticket, his wife Tania claims.
In an interview the Olympic champion’s spouse alleged that her husband was treated like a “piece of s***” as the only black person waiting to board his flight home last month.
She said: “This woman basically humiliated him, until people came forward and said: ‘That’s Mo Farah, the Olympic champion.’
“She was mortified afterwards, but had basically yelled at him like he was a piece of s*** to get back into line.
“He was the only black person [in the queue] and hadn’t done anything to warrant it. I just knew she had a problem with him.”
Witnesses later claimed Mrs Farah swore at the airline worker, calling her “pathetic” and “disrespectful”, as the couple and their four children waited to board a 9.35am connecting flight from Atlanta, Georgia to their home in Portland, Oregon.
Tania’s candid comments came as she revealed her and the ‘double-double’ Olympic gold medallist experienced racism growing up in London in the Eighties – and it still continues today.
Speaking to the Telegraph , she said: “We’re lucky enough to enjoy a good life. We’re grateful for everything we have and, right now, I really feel like I’m living the dream.”
Tania also revealed how the pair fell in love after bonding over their shared religion of Islam.
Somali-born Mo, 33, is running in the Great North Run in Newcastle alongside Tania this weekend.
Tania admitted her husband is a “hardcore” running trainer.
Mo said: “I’ve been giving Tania training and stuff and then sometimes I do end up in the dog house. But that’s fine I guess, it happens in all kinds of relationships.
“I’ve been looking after her, I’ve been sending her good training, but sometimes I forget I’m more professional and she’s more amateur.”
