    London Mayor Sadiq Khan has called for a second EU referendum, criticising the government's handling of Brexit negotiations with the EU. Writing in the Observer, the Labour politician said that with the UK due to leave the EU in six months, it now faced either a bad deal or no deal. The debate had also become more about Boris Johnson's political ambitions than what was good for the UK, he said. Tory minister Michael Gove said Mr Khan wanted to frustrate the will of voters.     A mother and child who fell onto the tracks at a busy Tube station only avoided serious injury by scrambling into a pit to allow an oncoming train to pass above them, police said. The father also leapt down to help the pair as the terrifying incident unfolded at Baker Street station at about 10.15pm on Friday. The woman was walking along the platform, pushing her child in a pram and looking up at the indicator board when she accidentally feel, according to British Transport Police (BTP).     Firefighters have successfully doused a grass fire the size of four football pitches close to Heathrow Airport. Five hectares of grass and scrubland caught light in Feltham at 4pm on Saturday and burned for nearly five hours before it was brought under control at 9.43pm the same evening. It took almost 100 firefighters and 15 fire engines to subdue the blaze, and a spokeswoman for London Fire Brigade said the long stretch of dry weather was the probable cause of the fire. Fourteen horses had to be moved to a place of safety. Passengers tweeted photos of the smoke, but a spokesman for the airport said no flights were affected and both runways remained in operation.

Former  Councillor Shahed Ali who was imprisoned for housing fraud has been ordered to repay £180,000 or face being returned to prison. The Confiscation Order requires him to pay £110,000 to Tower Hamlets Council and the Government for money he made as a result of his fraud. He has also been ordered to pay the Council's legal costs of £70,000. In 2009, Mr Ali applied for social housing after claiming to be sleeping on a sofa at a relative's house. He was subsequently given a one bedroom council flat in Christian Street off Brick Lane. However, Mr Ali failed to disclose that in fact he owned a private property at Manchester Road, E14, and had also occupied a property at Cannon Street Road, in the Whitechapel ward he represented.
