Hillary Clinton Wins Democratic Nomination

Hillary Clinton has reached the number of delegates needed to clinch the Democratic presidential nomination, according to a tally by the Associated Press. If their count is right, she will become the first woman to top the ticket of a major US political party. Reluctant to celebrate too soon, Mrs Clinton greeted the news by saying she is on the brink of a "historic, unprecedented moment". The former Secretary of State told supporters gathered at a campaign event in Long Beach, California, there was still work to do as six states, including California and New Jersey, prepare for decisive votes on Tuesday. Replying to an AP Politics tweet declaring her nomination, she added: "We’re flattered, @AP, but we've got primaries to win. CA, MT, NM, ND, NJ, SD, vote tomorrow!" Accord...

British taxpayers will be hit with a shock £2.4billion bill if the UK stays in the EU

British taxpayers will be hit with a shock £2.4billion bill if the UK stays in the European Union, Boris Johnson will say on Monday. Mr Johnson will say there is a “£20billion black hole” in the EU’s finances which will be paid in part by the UK unless Britain votes for a Brexit on June 23. In a sign that Mr Johnson’s Leave campaign intends to increasingly focus on the economy ahead of the referendum, the former mayor of London warns that the EU is “demanding even more of our money”. He will say that British taxpayers face a “triple whammy of woe” as the EU hands the UK an extra £2.4billion bill, increases its overall budget because of the migration crisis and pays for potential bailouts of struggling eurozone economies. According to Vote Leave, EU documents disclose that ...

India’s Pocket Hercules dies at 104

Manohar Aich, the bodybuilder who became the first Indian to take the Mr. Universe title in 1952 and won the nickname 'Pocket Hercules' for his tiny stature, has died aged 104. Aich, who stood just 1.5 metres (four feet, 11 inches) tall, started lifting weights in 1942 when he was working as a gym instructor in the Royal Indian Air Force. That job ended when he slapped a British officer who had made an offensive remark about Indians, earning him a brief jail term -- a punishment he later described as a "blessing in disguise". "The jailor had been very kind and allowed me to train. In fact, he encouraged it," Aich told the Indian Express newspaper in an interview to mark his 100th birthday. He emerged from prison as India won its independence in 1947 and decided to settle i...
