US Muslim woman sues police for removing her headscarf

A Muslim woman launched a legal action on Monday against police in California alleging that her headscarf was forcibly removed after she was arrested on outstanding warrants. According to the complaint against the city of Long Beach and its police department, Kirsty Powell and her husband were pulled over by two officers while driving home in May of last year. She was subsequently arrested on two outstanding warrants - one linked to her sister allegedly falsely using her identity and one in relation to a 2002 shoplifting incident at a grocery store. Powell, who is African American, alleges that while being booked at the police station, one of the officers forcibly removed her headscarf in view of other male officers and inmates, telling her she was not allowed to wear her h...

We're sorry, this video cannot be played from your current location. Every little girl dreams of her perfect wedding. For Vita Cresswell, her dream wedding was one that her grandmother could attend. But when the day came, she took it one step further and gave the 100-year-old to take a starring role -- as bridesmaid. "I was quite overwhelmed about the idea of getting married. I don't like all the fuss," the 29-year-old from England told InsideEdition.com. She said she couldn't figure out how brides come up with the perfect date, so when she realized her grandmother's 100th birthday was coming up, she decided that it must have been a sign. "She always wanted to see us getting married, it just made sense," Cresswell said. So Cresswell and her husband-to-be, Gary Whineray, de...

Craig Wright revealed as Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto

Australian entrepreneur Craig Wright has publicly identified himself as Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto. His admission follows years of speculation about who came up with the original ideas underlying the digital cash system. Prominent members of the Bitcoin community and its core development team say they have confirmed his claims. But many others in the Bitcoin world are asking for more proof. Signed blocks Wright has revealed his identity to three media organisations - the BBC, the Economist and GQ. At the meeting with the BBC, Wright digitally signed messages using cryptographic keys created during the early days of Bitcoin's development. The keys are inextrica...

Vessel owners withdraw strike

The lighterage vessel owners association has called off its strike after the shipping minister gave an assurance that the demands will be met. The announcement was made after vessel owners held a meeting with Shahjahan Khan at the Shipping Ministry this afternoon. The ship owners had called the strike to protest a government order setting the minimum wage for vessel workers at 10,000 Taka. Importers of foreign goods were facing heavy losses because goods could not be off-loaded from ships in the outer anchorage. The port authority, businessmen, and the Cargo Vessel Owners Association had held several meetings earlier to resolve the issue.

Bangladesh can create millions of jobs for RMG workers: World Bank

Bangladesh can create millions of jobs for garment workers through improving the productivity and social and environmental compliance, according to a new study by the World Bank (WB). Currently, country’s garment sector employs 4.4 million workers, of whom 80 percent are women. The study said China is the largest apparel supplier having 41 percent global market share, Bangladesh is the second largest apparel supplier with 6.4 percent share. Bangladesh is likely to benefit from the shifting of work orders from China, as China is losing its market share due to higher cost of production. The study titled ‘Stitches to Riches? Mother Gives Birth On Hard Shoulder Of M42

Traffic on a busy motorway can be frustrating at the best of times - but it proved particularly stressful for one mother who went into labour. Baby Tommy was born on the hard shoulder of the M42 after a collision and a fuel spillage caused massive delays between Junction 7A and 7 on Saturday afternoon. The Central Motorway Police Group was called to help with the special delivery. Tommy's grandfather, Terry Kemp, has thanked officers who "came to the rescue" - and released a photo of his grandson sleeping soundly in hospital. "Mom and baby are doing well," he said. "Once again, big thank you to the police." Hundreds of people have congratulated the police for their speedy response on Facebook. It was a busy day for the specialist police squad. Obama mocks friends and foes at his final appearance at White House Correspondents dinner

Aiming jokes at the expense of political allies and opponents, President Barack Obama enjoyed himself at his final official appearance at the White House Correspondents’ dinner in Washington. Nobody was spared. Bernie Sanders, the 74-year-old Vermont senator who has turned the race for the Democratic nomination into a competition rather than a procession, was hailed as “the bright young face of the Democratic Party”. He went on: Bernie, you look like a million bucks — or we’ll put it in terms you’ll understand: You look like 37,000 donations of $27 each. Hillary Clinton, who now looks almost certain to be the Democratic nominee, was mocked for her attempt to win the support of young Americans. “You have to admit it though, Hillary trying to appeal to young voters is a litt...

David Cameron could be forced to allow 3000 refugee children into the UK

A tense vote on the Immigration Bill in the House of Commons this week saw plans to let the youngsters into Britain defeated by just 18 votes. MPs cried shame as the Government scuppered a plan that would see the youngsters rescued from European refugee camps. Home Secretary Theresa May had satisfied Tory rebels by agreeing to take 3,000 children from camps near Syria instead, but the move was defeated in the House of Lords. And Conservative sources say the Government is planning a U-Turn. One Tory source told the Sunday Mirror: “They are definitely willing to come to the table to avoid any potential problems. “There’s no way they want to do this before the local elections . “They don’t want to look weak and they are worried it might do damage in areas where immigration is...
