BNP Vice Chairman Shamsher Mobin quits Polititics

Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury has resigned as the vice chairman of the BNP. He submitted his resignation to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia last night. The former BNP leader told Independent Television that he took the decision over considerations of health. He said that he had written to the party chief explaining his inability to continue in his position for health reasons. He said that his letter was handed to the party acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam last night. He joined the BNP in 2008 after serving as the Bangladesh envoy in the US for two years. Mobin was made a vice chairman after the BNP’s national convention in 2009.

MI5 Boss: IS Planning UK Mass Casualty Attacks

The head of MI5 has said the terror threat level facing Britain is the highest he had seen in his 32-year career. Andrew Parker, director general of the Security Service, said six terror plots have been thwarted in the last year. And during a speech in London on Wednesday, he also warned that so-called Islamic State (IS) is planning "mass casualty" attacks on Britain. He described a three dimensional threat" at home, overseas and online - with an increasing amount of MI5's casework linked to Syria and IS. It (IS) uses the full range of modern communications tools to spread its message of hate, and to inspire extremists, sometimes as young as their teens, to conduct attacks in whatever way they can. And he warned the threat posed by IS - also known as ISIL - shows no sign o...

Population estimates just got revised up

The UK's population is going to swell by almost 10 million people in the next 25 years, taking us to a total of 74.3m by the middle of 2039. The figures, projected by the Office for National Statistics, suggest that by 2027 the UK will reach the 70 million point. Net migration is expected to account for 51 per cent of the total increase, while a "natural increase" will account for 49 per cent of the growth. The ONS has had to revise its forecast for growth over the next decade upwards to 4.4m from the 2012 estimate, which was around 250,000 lower. However the population is projected to continue ageing, with the median age rising from 40 years in 2014 to 40.9 years in mid-2024 and 42.9 by mid-2039, by which point one in 12 people will be 80-plus. England's population will g...

Food lists that can help slow down your ageing

Ageing is a natural phenomenon which everyone has to go through, but consuming dark chocolates or blueberries can help slow down the process with better results, says an expert. Vikas Jain, fitness and health connoisseur at Anytime Fitness, has shared a list of five super food that can actually make a difference to our body system. Olive Oil: It is a good source of MUFA (monounsaturated fatty acids) and omega 3. A serving of olive oil will give you the daily dose of healthy fats. Cooking in olive oil damages the structure of olive oil and it converts it into a saturated fat. Olive oil is also excellent source of polyphenols which are strong anti-oxidants which are needed to balance the free radicals. Yogurt: It is an excellent source of protein and calcium. It helps us to...

Malnutrition and other Victorian diseases soaring in England due to food poverty and cuts

Cases of malnutrition and other Victorian diseases are soaring in England, in what campaigners said was a result of cuts to social services and rising food poverty. NHS statistics show that 7,366 people were admitted to hospital with a primary or secondary diagnosis of malnutrition between August 2014 and July this year, compared with 4,883 cases in the same period from 2010 to 2011. A rise of more than 50 per cent in just four years. Cases of other diseases rife in the Victorian era including scurvy, scarlet fever, cholera and whooping cough have also increased since 2010, although cases of TB, measles, typhoid and rickets have fallen. Malnutrition cases in English hospitals almost double in five years Chris Mould, chairman of the Trussell Trust, which runs a nationwide n...

South China Sea: Beijing not frightened to fight a war after US move

China is not afraid of fighting a war against the United States in the South China Sea, a state-run newspaper with links to the Communist party has claimed. Twenty-four hours after Washington challenged Beijing’s territorial claims in the region by deploying a warship to waters around the disputed Spratly archipelago, the notoriously nationalistic Global Times accused the Pentagon of provoking China. “In [the] face of the US harassment, Beijing should deal with Washington tactfully and prepare for the worst,” the newspaper argued in an editorial on Wednesday. “This can convince the White House that China, despite its unwillingness, is not frightened to fight a war with the US in the region, and is determined to safeguard its national interests and dignity.” The People’s Li...

Heavy rains this morning could lead to localised flooding in parts of London: the southeast and the east, according to the Met office

David Cameron has announced an urgent review of the powers of the House of Lords after the Government came within a hair’s breadth of suffering a second damaging defeat at the hands of peers in 24 hours. The Prime Minister has made clear his fury after plans to cut spending on tax credits by £4.4bn were thrown out by the Lords, arguing that the rejection of the measure by the unelected chamber raised a “constitutional issue”. The problems he faces in the Lords, where the Tories are heavily outnumbered by Labour and Liberal Democrat peers, were underlined again when the Government narrowly avoided defeat over changes to the electoral register. Ministers face another tight vote in the Lords on Wednesday as the EU Referendum Bill returns to the Upper House. Opposition peers a...

London Weather: Met office warns of localised flooding amid heavy rains

Heavy rains this morning could lead to localised flooding in parts of London, the southeast and the east, according to the Met Office. The forecasting service issued a severe weather warning for areas from Kent up into Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire, warning that parts of the country could see as much as 10mm of rain in an hour. In places that could be as much as 30mm in only a few hours, the Met Office warned. The severe weather warning follows bursts of heavy rain in parts of the southeast and east of England, with fallen Autumn leaves impeding drainage. Rain in the southeast is expected to clear away by mid-afternoon, moving northwards up to Yorkshire as the day goes on and into southern Scotland by about 6pm. Things started off drier in the west, with fog and low clo...

Woman trying to find stranger who left kind note after seizure on London train

A woman is searching for the good Samaritan who carried her off a train, called the emergency services, bought her a coffee and paid for a taxi home when she had a seizure. Ellie Farnfield, 27, was travelling from Redhill in Surrey to London Victoria on Wednesday when she fell unconscious. She came around on the floor to find the coffee, a £10 note and the handwritten letter from a man giving his name only as Tom. “I hope by the time you read this you are feeling better,” the note said. “You had a seizure on the train and I took you off. Ms Farnfield had been travelling into London on a Southern Trains service “You didn't hit your head but I may have hurt your leg as I walked on it before realising you were on the floor having a fit! Sorry! “I'm also sorry I can't stay wit...
