UK supermarkets increased petrol and diesel price

Supermarkets have slashed the price of petrol and diesel by up to 2p per litre - seeing forecourt prices fall across the country. Asda has announced a national cap meaning motorists will not shell out more than 105.7ppl on unleaded and 106.7ppl on diesel across their 272 stations. Tesco rolled out a 2p drop that will come into effect from 5pm on Monday. Peter Cattell, fuel director for Tesco, said: "We know that lots of customers will have plans for the summer holidays, so we're dropping the price of our fuel to help them enjoy it even more. "This reduction of up to 2p per litre on petrol and diesel at all our 500 petrol filling stations will mean millions of customers save money by shopping at Tesco." Andy Peake, Asda's senior director for petrol, said the chain has dropp...

NHS can legally fund game changing HIV drug as Court decides

A High Court judge has ruled the NHS can legally supply a game changing drug that prevents HIV. National Aids Trust (NAT) brought a challenge against NHS England that was being heard by Mr Justice Green in London. The case relates to pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), a highly effective anti-retroviral drug used to stop HIV from becoming established in the event of transmission. When taken consistently, PrEP has been shown to reduce the risk of infection in people who are at high risk by more than 90 per cent. A dispute arose earlier this year when NHS England said it would not routinely fund the drug because it was a preventative service and was therefore not its responsibility. It said local councils were in charge of funding preventative health services. After initially r...

Trump Calls Rival Hillary Clinton The Devil

Donald Trump has unleashed his latest verbal attack on his Democratic rival for the White House by branding Hillary Clinton "the devil". The Republican presidential candidate's insult came as he berated Senator Bernie Sanders' decision to endorse Mrs Clinton. While rallying his supporters in Pennsylvania, Mr Trump said of Sanders: "He made a deal with the devil. She's the devil." He also told a crowd in Ohio that he feared the US presidential election in November "is going to be rigged". The billionaire said he had been hearing "more and more" that the election may not be contested fairly, though he did not elaborate further. He made the claim after first suggesting Mr Sanders never had a chance of winning the Democratic presidential nomination because the party's primary ...

Leytonstone underground station knifeman jailed for life

An Isis fanatic who attempted to behead a musician at an east London tube station has been jailed for life. Muhiddin Mire, 30, attacked Lyle Zimmerman with a knife at Leytonstone Underground station and threatened other members of the public in December last year. Video footage captured while Mire was restrained by police at the scene showed a witness shouting ‘you ain’t no Muslim, bruv’ at the attacker. Somali-born Mire, of Samson Road, London, grabbed Mr Zimmerman, 56, after declaring he was going to ‘spill blood’ for his ‘Syrian brothers’. He had images of Fusilier Lee Rigby and Jihadi John on his mobile phone, along with material linked to Isis. Sentencing Mire at the Old Bailey, Judge Nicholas Hilliard QC, Recorder of London, said that while he accepted Mire was suffe...

Donald Trump wife Melania nude pictures leak: what Khizr Khan says

It’s now been alleged that nude pictures of Trump’s wife Melania could have been leaked to distract from the father of a fallen Muslim soldier, who made cutting comments about the Republican nominee. An adviser for the Donald Trump campaign has stated that nude pictures of Melania Trump, published this week in America, are "nothing to be embarrassed about" while a conservative commentator claimed they would help the Republican nominee attract votes. The New York Post on Monday published a front-page picture of the 46-year-old Slovenian-born Mrs Trump naked with the headline "Menage a Trump", prompting accusations of misogyny. On Sunday, the paper ran a front-page picture of a nude Mrs Trump, with stars covering her breasts, under the title "The Ogle Office". “These...
