Bangladesh’s several world records in Guinness


 

 

Guinness World Records, known from its inception in 1955 until 1998 as The Guinness Book of Records is a reference book published annually, listing world records and national records, both of human achievements and the extremes of the natural world. Like other countries, Bangladesh has enlisted its name in the world record book in several category stands.

Most people singing a national/regional anthem simultaneously

In 2014, Guinness World Records, the global authority on record breaking achievement, provided The Bangladesh Ministry of Cultural Affairs, with remote adjudications service for the official record ‘Most people singing a national/regional anthem simultaneously’.

Thinnest nation

The country with the lowest Body Mass Index (BMI) is Bangladesh, with a national average of 20.5 for women and 20.4 for men in 2010. More than 9 million children – more than half of all Bangladeshi children – are underweight and suffer from stunted growth.

Longest single line of bicycles (moving)

The longest single line of moving bicycles consists of 1,186 cyclists, achieved during an event organised by BDCyclists (Bangladesh), in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on 16 December 2016.

All cyclists remained in a continuous single line for the attempt.

Heaviest hailstones

The heaviest hailstones on record weighed up to 1 kg (2 lb) and are reported to have killed 92 people in the Gopalganj area of Bangladesh on 14 April 1986.

Most siblings to marry the siblings of another family

All five daughters of Narandra Nath and Taramoni Roy (Bangladesh) married five brothers, sons of Trarpoda Karmaker and Khana Rani Roy (both Bangladesh) between1977–1996.

The fastest 100 metres on roller skates with a football balanced on the head is 27.66 seconds, achieved by Abdul Halim (Bangladesh), in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on 22 November 2015. The attempt took place at Dhaka Railway station.

Longest human chain (length)

On 11 December 2004, over 5 million people joined hands to form a human chain, 1,050 km (652.4 miles) long from Teknaf to Tentulia, Bangladesh.

The partipants were supporters of 14 opposition parties led by the Bangladesh Awami League to express their ‘No Confidence’ campaign to the BNP-led alliance government and to demand fresh polls.

Worst flood disaster – homeless toll

In 1998, Bangladesh experienced its worse flood in living memory. Some 57% of the country was flooded resulting in 25 million people becoming homeless.

Most densely populated country (population over 50 million)

In 2010, Bangladesh’s total population was 162,221,000, in 55,600(km2) area and density of population was (per km2) 2,918.

Largest coastal mangrove forest

The world’s largest coastal mangrove forest is the Sundarbans, which stretches for almost 15,540 km² (6,000 square miles) across India and Bangladesh, (60% of lies in Bangladesh and the rest in India) and acts as a natural barrier against tsunamis and cyclones that often blow in from the Bay of Bengal.

With saltwater-tolerant roots, this forest’s mangrove trees sometimes exceed 21 m (70 ft) in height above islands of layered sand and grey clay, which have been deposited by rivers that flow for over 1,000 miles from the Himalayas to the Bay of Bengal.
