Council has ensured that thousands of free childcare places are available for two-year-olds during September’s intake, and that child-minders across the borough are assessed by Ofsted to ensure care is of the highest possible quality.
Mayor of Tower Hamlets, John Biggs, said: “Childcare can be incredibly expensive, particularly in the capital, that’s why we are proud to offer free childcare places for those who need it most. I really encourage all parents of two-year-olds to find out if they qualify, it’s really simple and can make a world of difference for both parent and child.”
Councillor Amy Whitelock-Gibbs, Cabinet Member for Education and Children’s Services added: “The free childcare scheme is great for children and can also give parents the opportunity to invest in themselves – perhaps to attend a course to develop skills or enjoy a new interest, or to spend additional time with other children in a family.”
The council has worked in partnership with developers, charities and housing providers to meet high demand for childcare provision in the borough.
Toddlers could be entitled to 15 hours a week of free childcare if parents are on a low income, if the child has additional needs or if the child is looked after by the council.
Residents can find out if their child is eligible for a free place by going to www.myearlylearning.co.uk or by calling the Family Information Service on 020 7364 6495.
