The difference between panic attacks and anxiety attacks

Panic attack and anxiety attack are often used interchangeably but do they really mean the same thing? Here's how they differ, as well as symptoms and how to treat them. It happened as I was walking home from class during my second year of college. Seemingly out of nowhere, my heart started racing, I felt like I couldn't breathe, and I began sweating, even though it wasn't even hot outside. Terrified of what was happening in my body, I ran home I legitimately thought I was going to die. I had recently started seeing a therapist for depression and anxiety, so I called her as soon as I made it to my room. She knew exactly what was happening: I was having a panic attack. Over the years, I learned I wasn't alone - though some people referred to these episodes of extr...

New survey reveals worrying UK attitudes towards consent

Almost half of people in the UK don't think it's OK for a person to withdraw sexual consent if they're already naked with a partner, according to a survey released for Sexual Health Week 2018. Carried out by the Family Planning Association (FPA) in August, the survey asked 2,003 participants aged between 14 and 55 for their opinions on sexual consent. One of the biggest takeaways from the survey was that almost half of those polled (47 per cent) said that they don’t think it’s OK for someone to withdraw sexual consent if they’re already naked. Among those aged 14 and 17 years old, 39 per cent agreed with this view. The participants were asked whether it was OK to withdraw sexual consent in certain circumstances. The scenarios included if they'd been bought dinner...

New sex claims hit US top court pick

A second woman has accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct, throwing his ascension to the highest court in the land into further doubt. Deborah Ramirez has said that she attended a dorm-room party with Kavanaugh in the early 1980s when the pair were both studying at Yale University. There, she said in an interview with The New Yorker published Sunday, Kavanaugh exposed himself to her and thrust his penis into her face, causing her to touch it. I wasn’t going to touch a penis until I was married, Ramirez told the magazine. I was embarrassed and ashamed and humiliated. She added: Brett was laughing. I can still see his face, and his hips coming forward, like when you pull up your pants. Kavanaugh has denied the allegation but Senate Democ...

Brit loses appeal over illegal meds

Laura Plummer from Hull, who is currently held in an Egyptian jail after being accused of drug smuggling A British woman jailed in Egypt for taking hundreds of painkillers into the country has lost an appeal against her conviction, it has been reported. Laura Plummer, 34, was sentenced to three years in prison on Boxing Day last year after she was found to be carrying 290 Tramadol tablets in her suitcase. The shop worker had hoped Egypt's appeal court would accept she had no way of knowing the pills were illegal in the country, but judges in Cairo upheld her conviction and jail term, The Sun reported. Ms Plummer, from Hull, told the paper: I thought the appeal judges would see sense and realise I couldn't have known the tablets were banned. It's just so absurd. T...
