Third Novichok suspect identified

A third suspect in the Novichok attack in Salisbury has been identified, it has been reported. A Russian military intelligence who the officer is believed to have carried out a reconnaissance mission before the poisoning of Sergei Skripal has been unmasked by investigators.

The third suspect has been identified by counter-terrorism police and the security services, according to the Telegraph.

The male GRU agent is believed to have visited Salisbury to help plan the attack before two of his colleagues brought a weapons-grade nerve agent into the UK.

It is understood the man has been identified by those investigating the planned assassination of Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in March.

The attack inadvertently led to the death of Dawn Sturgess and left her boyfriend Charlie Rowley in hospital.

It is the latest piece of information as further revelations continue to emerge about the shocking Russian-instigated nerve agent deployment.

On Tuesday it was revealed that the suspect initially identified as Ruslan Boshirov is actually a high-ranking operator named Anatolly Chepiga, who was decorated by Vladimir Putin himself.

Tonight the Mirror exclusively reveals that MI5 and British police could head up an investigation into any previous assassinations that can be linked to Chepiga and his accomplice Alexander Petrov.

The pair were spotted strolling through the Wiltshire city on the day former KGB spy Skripal, 67, and his 33-year-old daughter were poisoned with Novichok in March.
