Donald Trump to file legal complaint against James Comey over release of damning memos

Donald Trump's private lawyer is planning to file a legal complaint against James Comey over the former FBI director’s release of memos to the public that detailed his conversations with the President. During a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing, Mr Comey said he believed that Mr Trump had ordered him to drop a criminal investigation into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn. Mr Comey had detailed this interaction in a memo, writing that the President told him: I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go. He is a good guy. I hope you can let this go. Mr Comey told the Senate committee that he felt he needed to get this information out into the public square. So I asked a friend of mine to share the content of the memo with a repor...

Theresa May’s new Cabinet: Who are they

The most high-profile Cabinet ministers in Theresa May's administration are keeping their jobs, Downing Street has said. They are: Chancellor of the Exchequer - Philip Hammond Dubbed 'Spreadsheet Phil', Mr Hammond was seen as a safe pair of hands when he was first appointed to head the Treasury last year. But hardline Brexiteers in the Tory party have grown wary. Mr Hammond, a Remainer, could be pushing for a softer exit from the EU at the top of Government. His credibility was partly eroded after his first Budget ended in a shambles in March, forcing the Chancellor to climb down on a tax hike for self-employed workers. Tensions with the Prime Minister's team were heightened further when he hinted the Tories would ditch their triple tax lock in the 2017 manifesto, before i...

Jeremy Corbyn was just 2,227 votes away from chance to be Prime Minister

Jeremy Corbyn was just 2,227 votes away from having the chance to become Prime Minister in the general election, an analysis of marginal seats has revealed. If the Labour leader had won seven seats narrowly taken by the Conservatives, he would have had the opportunity to form a progressive alliance with all other smaller parties, barring the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). The Labour Party has said it was prepared to form a coalition government, with Mr Corbyn announcing: We are ready to serve. With seven more seats going to Mr Corbyn, a coalition of Labour, the Liberal Democrats, the Scottish National Party (SNP), Plaid Cymru, the Green Party and one independent MP in the House of Commons would have held 321 seats enough to block Theresa May and for Mr Corbyn to enter nu...

Almost 300,000 people sign petition against the Tory DUP deal in just 12 hours

Almost 300,000 people sign petition against the Tory DUP deal in just 12 hours An online petition demanding that the Conservatives scrap plans to form a government with DUP support, gained nearly 300,000 signatures in just 12 hours. Signed by 278,843 people at the time of writing, it also calls for Theresa May to resign after she lost her parliamentary majority. Speaking outside No 10 after the result became clear, the prime minister said she would seek to form a minority government with a confidence and supply agreement with the Northern Irish party. It would mean they would vote with the government on a case by case basis. But the party is controversial for many of its illiberal stances on LGBT rights, abortion and climate change as well as its alleged links with unionis...

Theresa May will be gone in six months after disastrous outcome: Heidi Allen

Heidi Allen has become the first Conservative MP to say publicly that she believes Theresa May will be gone in the next six months. The South Cambridgeshire MP said she does not believe Ms May will remain Prime Minister "indefinitely" and said her premiership may now be a period of transition as the country negotiates Brexit. She told LBC's Iain Dale: If this was any other election in any other time in our history you could say yes the Prime Minister needs to stand down but this is different of course because we are about to start negotiating Brexit so that puts an entirely different complexion on that. We do need a Prime Minister at this moment. Ms Allen, who is an outspoken backbench rebel, blamed the party's failure to win a majority squarely on the campaign. She said s...
