Attack in Commercial Road last night

Police were made aware of a robbery in Commercial Road, close to Watney St. last night about 6pm. The driver of a vehicle was squirted in the face with a noxious type liquid and his vehicle was stolen. This was later recovered in Hackney. The victim was treated at the scene for a burning sensation to his skin, but did not require further treatment. Although the liquid is unknown, the police have said it was potentially a bleach type liquid as it discoloured the victims shirt. The suspects made off in the stolen vehicle and on a moped. John Biggs, Mayor of Tower Hamlets said: "We know some of our residents are very concerned about this attack. The police have confirmed the incident was not like the terrible attack involving acid that recently took place in Newham. "We will continue to w...

Trump travel ban goes into effect

A scaled-back version of President Donald Trump’s travel ban took effect Thursday evening, stripped of provisions that brought protests and chaos at airports worldwide in January yet still likely to generate a new round of court fights. The new rules, the product of months of legal wrangling, aren’t so much an outright ban as a tightening of already-tough visa policies affecting citizens from six Muslim-majority countries. Refugees are covered, too. Administration officials promised that implementation this time, which started at 8 p.m., would be orderly. Customs and Border Protection spokesman Dan Hetlage said his agency expected ‘‘business as usual at our ports of entry,’’ with all valid visa holders still being able to travel. Still, immigration and refugee advocates ar...

The man cited the November 2015 attack on the Bataclan nightclub in which 90 people died and an incident earlier this month when a heavily armed driver died in a botched suicide attack at the Champs-Elysées roundabout A statement released by police said: "An individual driving a 4x4 vehicle hit ...

Jeremy Corbyn sacks shadow ministers who defied him on Brexit vote

Jeremy Corbyn has sacked several of his front bench team after they defied his orders not to back a soft Brexit in the Commons. Thursday afternoon’s debate on the Queen’s speech opened up fresh divisions in the Labour Party, as three shadow ministers were sacked and at least one more resigned after they joined 49 MPs in supporting a rebel amendment calling for Britain to stay in the single market and customs union. Shadow ministers Andy Slaughter, Ruth Cadbury and Catherine West were fired after defying the leadership to vote for an amendment calling to Britain to remain in the single market and the customs union. A fourth frontbencher, shadow transport minister Daniel Zeichner, quit voluntarily after supporting the amendment. In all, 49 Labour MPs voted for the amendment ...
