The pound is finally rising

The pound has made back some ground against both the dollar and euro in volatile trading following its latest slide, on Tuesday, attributed to Brexit concerns. Sterling was trading just below $1.23 and €1.11 as investors reacted to the Government indicating it was prepared to offer MPs greater scrutiny of the process for leaving the European Union. Fears of a 'hard' Brexit have dominated the assault on the pound's value, which has tumbled 6% since Theresa May signalled the UK would be leaving the single market to allow full control over immigration. Sterling's rise of almost 2% on Wednesday followed a sag to $1.20 the previous day. PM May makes eleventh hour concession over Brexit scrutiny

Conservative party conference Theresa May has made "one hell of a climbdown" in a bid to prevent a Tory rebellion over her Brexit strategy. The Prime Minister accepted a call to ensure Parliament can properly scrutinise the plan for leaving the EU before Article 50 is invoked, which is likely to take place before March 2017. Labour will make the call for scrutiny during an Opposition Day motion in the House of Commons on Wednesday (12 October). But May has tabled an amendment accepting closer inspection, as long as it does not undermine the negotiating position of the government as negotiations are entered into. The prime minister's move comes amid increasing cross-party pressure for lawmakers to be given a vote on the Brexit strategy before Article 50 is triggered, settin...

The household traditions of Muharram

Muharram has significance for all Muslims, irrespective of the sectarian divisions that are said to be a major issue in the Islamic belief. However, the expression and the intensity of observance of Ashura, or the tenth day of the month of Muharram, varies within the Islamic world. During the time of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) Muslims used to fast for two days to commemorate Musa (AS) and his people's deliverance from the clutches of the Pharaoh. The battle of Karbala added a new dimension to this observance. For the Shiʿite community in different regions of the world, many cultural aspects of mourning have been integrated into the customs of the day of Ashura. As the family of Hussain (R) is mourned as one's own, men and women follow the outwardly expressions of grief as wel...

Mystery Shrouds Over MP Tulip’s Luxury House in London

Special Correspondent: The British-based niece of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is standing as an MP in Britain’s General Election in May. Tulip 33, is standing as a candidate for the main opposition Labour Party in a seat in the capital London called Hampstead and Kilburn. The seat is one of Britain most marginal seats, as its current Labour MP, former actress Glenda Jackson, won the seat in 2010 with a majority of only 42 votes. Tulip is likely to win the seat as Labour appears to be ahead in the polls in the constituency. However, questions are already being raised about Tulip family background, and her apparent attempt to hide her links to her aunt, Sheik Hasina. A British national newspaper has reported that in 2012, Tulip was photograph with President Putin at the Kre...
