London’s first night czar Amy Lamé is asking residents to give their views on the benefits and impacts of Tower Hamlets’ night time economy.
Ms Lamé will be a guest speaker alongside Mayor of Tower Hamlets, John Biggs at a public meeting on 6 April from 6.30pm- 8.30pm at St Hilda’s East Community Centre, 18 Club Row, London E2 7EY.
Ms Lamé will present her vision of a thriving night time economy and Mayor Biggs will be on hand to listen to concerns from residents. Members from Tower Hamlets Overview and Scrutiny Committee (OSC) will facilitate.
The meeting is part of an ongoing review by OSC on how to minimise antisocial behaviour and maximise benefits such as employment or entrepreneurial opportunities and the value of local and cultural entertainment.
“The vibrant nightlife in our borough is a big attraction and brings with it significant economic benefits but we need to do all we can to minimise any negative impact on local people. . This is an opportunity for residents to have their say on how we should shape our policies to harness the positives and offset the negatives. The council is currently working on a new anti-social behaviour strategy and I would encourage people to come along and share their ideas.”
Councillor John Pierce, Chair of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee, added:
“Local people have a wealth of knowledge about their neighbourhoods that can help us strike the right balance of residential, social and economic benefits in the future night time economy. It is important to hear as many voices as possible.”
