The truth about Queen: how much she drinks everyday

The Queen does not drink four cocktails a day, contrary to recent reports. Her Majesty's former chef Darren McGrady has spoken out to clarify his comments about the 91 year old's favourite drinks, after he said his quotes were misreported. She'd be pickled if she drank that much, the former royal chef told CNN. All I said was she likes a gin and Dubonnet. That's her favourite drink. And the chef clarified that Her Majesty doesn't drink every day. She doesn't wake up in the morning and have a large gin and tonic. UK Hello! Magazine The Queen's favourite drink is a gin and Dubonnet Darren added that when the Queen does have a drink with dinner it is typically a glass of her favourite German sweet wine. Just in the evening. She certainly doesn't drink four glasses a day. The ...

Eiffel Tower evacuated by police after man brandishing knife to enter

Paris police have arrested a man brandishing a knife who tried to breach security at the Eiffel Tower, and the monument was briefly evacuated. The company that manages the tower said in a statement Sunday that no one was hurt in the incident, which occurred soon before closing time Saturday night. The tower reopened as usual Sunday morning. Paris police say the man tried to force his way past security forces to go beneath the tower, but was quickly subdued. His identity wasn't released, and his motives are unclear. An investigation is underway. Monuments in the French capital are occasionally evacuated for security reasons, as the country remains on alert after deadly attacks since 2015.

Grenfell children offered seaside holidays

The best day ever that was three-year-old Romaysa's reaction after getting off her speedboat ride in West Sussex. Her sister Tasnim, brother Elias and mother Nabila have not been allowed back in to their home near Grenfell Tower since the fire. The area is still too dangerous. So it was a welcome break when charity Play Association and Felpham Sailing Club offered them, and other Grenfell families, a day out sailing and playing on the beach. Nabila told Sky News it's made a real difference. It's amazing. From the moment I saw the sea. Breathing the air…it's something different. We're really grateful, we're so honoured to have this moment of a day and to see them smiling and say it was the best day! Mum Nabila takes a picture of her children on the beach She explained how f...

Second referendum about impossible as UK risks economic suicide

A former head of the European Commission has said a second Brexit referendum may be impossible for the UK, despite hopes from some Labour and Liberal Democrat MPs that the decision to leave the EU could still be reversed. But Romano Prodi, who served as the President of the Commission from 1999 to 2004, warned the UK risks committing economic suicide unless the Government is prepared to be flexible in order to reach a trade deal with the European Union. With the Brexit negotiations apparently moving slowly and the clock ticking on the UK’s exit from the EU, Mr Prodi, a former Italian Prime Minister and economist, weighed into the debate. He called for historic compromise on both sides so that a deal can be brokered on the major sticking points of trade and free movement bu...

May’s former advisers warned, Tories will lose again

The Tories will lose the next election if they back unbridled capitalism and refuse to tax wealth to help the struggling many, one of Theresa May’s former advisers has warned. Higher tax on sales of expensive homes, more rights for workers and curbs on immigration should all be backed by the Tories if they are to reach the voters who feel abandoned by globalisation, according to Will Tanner, the former deputy head of May’s policy unit. His comments come as other influential Tory figures also express fears that the party’s disastrous election campaign will lead it to abandon May’s early attempts to intervene in broken markets and consider taxes on the wealthy – moves treated with suspicion by many pro-free-market Tory MPs. Tanner’s intervention, in an article for the Observ...
