UK drivers unaware of EU speeding law

    The majority of British motorists heading out to Europe are unaware of a new law that could land them a £640 fine if caught speeding, new research has revealed. A new EU cross-border directive on traffic offences means that Brits who get caught speeding in the European Union now face fines of up to £640. The new law allows foreign police officers to use DVLA data to track down drivers who’ve committed a driving offence abroad. Analysis by breakdown provider Green Flag found that 81 per cent of British drivers are unaware of the new law introduced in May this year. This is made worse with 69 per cent of drivers putting themselves at risk by admitting they do not know how to convert their speed from miles per hour to kilometres per hour. Tower Hamlets pupils have their GCSE artwork on public show

    Art GCSE students from Bishop Challoner and St Paul's Way schools have their work on show at Half Moon galelry. An exhibition giving 45 GCSE Art students a chance to have their work on public show in a professional gallery has opened at east London’s famous Half Moon theatre. Works by sixthform pupils from Stepney’s Bishop Challoner and Bow’s St Paul’s Way Trust schools runs until September 1 at the theatre’s Gallery at Half Moon in Limehouse. There are 52 works on show, in collaboration with Tower Hamlets Artist Teachers network, as part of the students coursework and exams completed in the summer. Israel jails 19 year old woman for refusing military service

    A 19-year old woman has been jailed by the Israeli authorities for refusing to be conscripted into the Israel Defence Force. Noa Gur Golan is currently being held in a military prison near Haifa, having been detained for more than 30 days. She is being held in a room with nine other women and is only allowed to see her family once every two weeks. Israel expects all Jewish, Druze and Circassian Israeli over the age of 18 to do their military service, with women being conscripted for two years and men two years and eight months.     Members of an extended family have been convicted of running a modern slavery ring which kept one of its captives in truly shocking conditions for decades. Vulnerable people were forced to work for the family for little or no wages, while their pay-masters lived a life of lavish luxury. The 11 gang-members, convicted of fraud and slavery charges, enjoyed holidays to Barbados and cosmetic surgery and even shelled out on a Manchester United soccer school, earned off the backs of their workers.
