Israel and Iran on Path to War behind the reason

There have been coups and revolutions, external invasions and proxy conflicts, but the Middle East hasn’t seen a head-to-head war between major regional powers since the 1980s. There’s a growing risk that one is about to break out in Syria, pitting Israel against Iran. The Islamic Republic’s forces are entrenching there, after joining the fight to prop up President Bashar al-Assad. The Jewish state, perceiving a direct threat on its border, is subjecting them to an escalating barrage of airstrikes. Nobody expects those strikes to go unanswered. The path to escalation is clear, and the rhetoric is apocalyptic. We will demolish every site where we see an Iranian attempt to position itself, Israel’s Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman told the London-based Saudi newspap...

May survives local election test

Theresa May appears to have come through local election night undamaged despite rows over Brexit and Windrush as UKIP collapsed across England. One significant result saw the Tories retain control of Kensington and Chelsea despite anger over the response to the Grenfell Tower tragedy. The Conservatives also gained Barnet, with Labour missing out on a key target council following its anti-Semitism row. The borough has a large Jewish community. For UKIP, the highs of 2014 have turned into near obliteration, with the party losing 84 seats by 6.30am and retaining just two. There were bright spots for Labour after 150 local authorities in England headed to the polls but overall the party did not live up to expectations. Up to 100g of nerve agent used on Skripals

Up to 100 grams of liquid nerve agent were used in the attack on former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia, the head of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has said. Ahmet Uzumcu told the New York Times the amount of Novichok used around half a cup of liquid suggests it was created for use as a weapon rather than for research purposes. Mr Skripal, 66, and his 33-year-old daughter Yulia were left fighting for their lives in hospital after being found unconscious on a park bench in Salisbury on March 4. The inquiry into the nerve agent attack in the Wiltshire city has involved 250 detectives who have gone through more than 5,000 hours of CCTV and interviewed more than 500 witnesses. Why This Dust Storm in India Turned Deadly

The onset of India's monsoon season isn't coming quietly for the northern part of the country. At least 100 people were recently killed by a massive dust storm that swept through the region on Wednesday night. According to local reports, many of the fatalities occurred when intense wind knocked over large structures, killing or injuring those in its way. Dust storms are an annual weather pattern seen in the region. The scale and intensity of this most recent storm, however, surprised officials on the ground. It stretched from the western state of Rajasthan to the eastern state of Uttar Pradesh and hit Delhi, which lies between them. In past years, fatalities from the dust storms rarely caused more than a dozen fatalities. Speaking with the BBC, secretary for disas...
