Comedian Simon hands over Theresa May P45 in her middle of speech and says Boris gave to you

Theresa May’s keynote speech at Tory conference descended into chaotic scenes after she struggled to cope with a sore throat and was interrupted by a prankster. The Prime Minister intended the speech to relaunch her Premiership after a Conservative Party conference beset by Cabinet splits and leadership speculation. The Prime Minister made a full apology for her disastrous snap election, admitting that it had been too Presidential and scripted. She also conceded that her unemotional image as an ice maiden had been damaging and spoke of her sadness at not being able to have children. But her speech was overshadowed by the comedian Simon Brodkin, who broke through security to step up to the podium and hand the Prime Minister a P45. The prankster said Boris asked me to give y...

Calls Boris to be sacked after Libya dead bodies comment

Boris Johnson is facing calls for his sacking after saying a Libyan city could become the next Dubai once it had cleared the dead bodies away. A Tory MP said the Foreign Secretary’s comments were 100% unacceptable and insisted he must lose his job. His Labour counterpart, Emily Thornberry, said the remarks were unbelievably crass, callous and cruel. Mr Johnson was made to move on after he told Tory activists that investors want to transform the coastal city of Sirte, where dictator Muammar Gaddafi was killed during the 2011 civil war, into a new version of the emirate. But when he said their only obstacle is to clear the dead bodies away, the host of the conference fringe event stepped in. As Mr Johnson continued to speak, Baroness Stroud, a former special adviser to ...

Suu Kyi stripped of Freedom of Oxford

An honour bestowed on Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi by the city of Oxford has been withdrawn as a reaction to her perceived inadequate response to the plight of Rohingya Muslims in the country, reports Times of India. The ‘Freedom of Oxford’ had been granted to the de facto leader of Myanmar in 1997 for her ‘long struggle for democracy’ by the Oxford City Council. A cross-party motion was unanimously passed by the council yesterday which said it was ‘no longer appropriate’ for her to hold the honour. Oxford City Council leader Bob Price supported the motion to remove her honour and confirmed it was an ‘unprecedented step’ for the local authority. The city council will hold a special meeting to confirm that the honour is removed on November 27. Suu Kyi, winner of the Nobe...

Tower Hamlets new planning document sheds light on the process of development viability

Following two public consultations, Tower Hamlets Council has now launched a Development Viability Supplementary Planning Document to implement a standardised approach, increase transparency and ensure planning obligations are being met. Tower Hamlets is the fastest growing Borough in the country. One of the biggest challenges we face is ensuring that growth works for local people and the demand for delivering genuine affordable housing is met. Development viability is a financial exercise undertaken to assess the level of planning obligations (e.g. affordable housing) a particular development scheme can potentially deliver. In order to help meet this challenge, Tower Hamlets Council has adopted the Development Viability Supplementary Planning Document. This aims to provide greater clarity...
