Denmark could pass such legislation on burqa ban

Danish parliamentarians will hold a formal vote to ban what they termed masking after the opposition party said it would support the measure. The country will be the latest European nation to pass such legislation. Denmark announced on Friday that it is planning to become the next European to enact a nationwide ban on the burqa and the niqab, the full-face coverings worn by some Muslim women. The Danish parliament has not yet announced a date for the formal vote. The move to ban the full-body coverings in Denmark is backed by the parties in the center-right government coalition, as well as the opposition Social Democrats. EU steps up Brexit talks with Labour amid concerns over Theresa May’s future

EU negotiators have reportedly stepped up backroom Brexit talks with Labour amid concerns over Theresa May's future. The Prime Minister has faced repeated calls to resign since losing the Conservative majority in June, with fresh claims this week that more than 30 Tory MPs want her to stand down. The discussions have marked a significant change in tone towards Labour, and Brussels is seeking assurances from Jeremy Corbyn that he would honour agreements made with the Conservatives if he comes to power, it added. Jeremy Corbyn and Theresa May In July, Mr Corbyn held very frank talks with EU ch...

The 38-year-old taught the children how to survive a bomb attack and fight with knives, rewarding them with sweets to keep them onside. He was sentenced at Nottingham crown court on Friday for what the judge, Gregory Dickinson QC, described as a particularly serious attempt to turn the children into terrorists. These were shocking crimes which damaged the children and caused offence to the vast majority of law abiding Muslims, he said. Dickinson also noted there had been an absence of remorse from Ghumra. Jurors heard how Ghumra followed various Isis-linked social media accounts and made the two unidentified children follow similar a...

Snaresbrook Crown Court heard how McBrearty kissed the youngster in a classroom, took him to an Ibis hotel for sex, and performed sex acts on him in an empty garage and in her car. She also took the teenager to her parents' home in Wanstead Park, east London, where she performed sex acts on him and had sex. McBrearty, who pleaded guilty to seven counts of sexual activity with a child while in a position of trust at an earlier hearing, put her head in her hands and sobbed in the dock as Judge Sheelagh Canavan sentenced her on Friday.
