Michel Barnier hits out at disturbing UK stance as Brexit talks hit deadlock

    David Davis, the Brexit secretary, has heaped pressure on European Union leaders to grant Michel Barnier the flexibility to begin talks over EU-UK trade and a possible transition deal at crunch summit in Brussels next week. Mr Barnier was given a mandate by the 27 heads of state and government to helm the Brexit talks on their behalf but it restricts him from discussing the future relationship until the EU judges that sufficient progress has been made on the issues of the so called Brexit bill, citizens rights and Ireland. White Widow’s British boy killed with mother in CIA drone strike

    A British Islamic State recruiter known as the White Widow and her 12-year-old son are believed to have been killed in a CIA operation, after Donald Trump relaxed restrictions on the US spy agency’s drone strike programme. Sally-Anne Jones reportedly died close to the border between Syria and Iraq, in a strike thought to have also killed her son Jojo Dixon. The punk rock singer-turned-jihadist become Britain’s most wanted women after fleeing to Syria from Kent in 2013 to marry computer hacker Junaid Hussain, an Isil fighter from Birmingham. Family held captive by Taliban linked group released

    An American woman, her Canadian husband and their three young children have been released after years of being held captive by a network with ties to the Taliban, U.S. and Pakistani officials said Thursday. U.S. officials say Pakistan secured the release of Caitlan Coleman of Stewartstown, Pennsylvania, and her husband, Canadian Joshua Boyle, who were abducted five years ago while traveling in Afghanistan and had been held by the Haqqani network in Pakistan. Coleman was pregnant when she was captured. The couple had three children while in captivity, and all have been freed, U.S. officials say. EU withdrawal bill debate delayed after 300 amendments demanded by MPs

    The Government’s key piece of Brexit legislation has been delayed due to a major push from MPs to force changes to it. The EU withdrawal Bill will now not be debated next week after some 300 amendments were demanded by MPs, with many of them thought to enjoy enough support among Conservative MPs. If Theresa May were to suffer a defeat at the hands of Labour and Tory rebels on her critical piece of Brexit legislation it would once again call into question the credibility of her administration. Free winter flu jab offered to those most vulnerable

Those people most at risk in Tower Hamlets are being encouraged to get vaccinated against the flu as the autumn chill sets in. The NHS is encouraging people over the age of 65 or with long-term health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease and chronic lung disease including COPD (chronic obstructive lung disease), or with a weakened immune system to take up the free flu jab. Front-line health and social care workers and personal carers are also being encouraged to get the jab to prevent them from unintentionally spreading the virus to people they come in to contact with.
