Michelle Obama: Trump is like a parent who lets his kids eat sweets all day

Michelle Obama has compared Donald Trump to a neglectful parent who lets their children gorge on sweets all day and stay up late. The former first lady used the parenting allegory to compare her husband's presidency to that of his successor. I think what we see is what happens when we take things for granted. For the eight years Barack was president, it was like having the ‘good parent’ at home, she said at the Simmons Leadership Conference in Boston. The responsible parent, the one who told you to eat your carrots and go to bed on time. And now we have the other parent. We thought it’d feel fun, maybe it feels fun for now because we can eat candy all day and stay up late, and not follow the rules. I think about what I’ve learned from my husband, and I’ve learned ...

Skripal out of crital condition

Skripal is no longer in a critical condition following last month's nerve agent attack, Salisbury District Hospital says. The former Russian double agent is responding well to treatment and is improving rapidly, Dr Christine Blanshard, medical director at the hospital said. The pair were rushed to hospital after shoppers found them collapsed on a bench at The Maltings shopping centre on 4 March. On Thursday, in her first statement since she and her father were poisoned, Ms Skripal revealed she woke up over a week ago and her strength is growing daily. Dr Blanshard said any speculation on when she might be well enough to leave hospital will be just that speculation. The Russian Embassy in London tweeted in response: Good news The latest update on the Skripal's re...

India in no rush to sign Brexit trade deal

India is no rush to do a post-Brexit trade deal with Britain and will demand easier access for Indians to migrate to Britain as part of a future trade relationship, the country's high commissioner has said. Many Brexiteers, including Trade Secretary Liam Fox, argue leaving the European Union will allow Britain to sign prosperous new trade deals with global economic powerhouses, including India, the USA and China. Speaking to Politico, Yashvardhan Sinha, the Indian High Commission in London, said India would like to the best deal possible with Britain, however, it is not a priority for its prime minister, Narendra Modi. I don’t think India is in a rush. I think India would like certainly, and I’m sure the U.K. would too to get the best deal possible, Sinha said. Si...

Six more young men stabbed within 90 minutes to London’s surge in bloodshed

Protesters and community leaders called for an end to the capital's surge in bloodshed as six more young men were stabbed on Thursday. Crowds gathered at Hackney Central station, close to where Israel Ogunsola, 18, was stabbed to death on Wednesday evening. Residents of all ages huddled round the station entrance before locking fists in a wide circle at a pedestrian shopping street nearby in solidarity for those killed. Mr Ogunsola's murder followed that of 16-year-old Amaan Shakoor two days earlier on April 2, who was shot in Markhouse Road, Walthamstow, minutes after the shooting of 17-year-old Tanesha Melbourne in Tottenham the same evening. Protest organisers Guiding A New Generation commonly known as G.A.N.G asked Hackney residents to share their stories and ...

Skripal’s pets died of poisoning

Skripal was imprisoned in 2010 after being found guilty of selling secrets to British intelligence Two guinea pigs and a cat belonging to former spy Sergei Skripal died following the nerve agent attack on him and his daughter Yulia, it has been revealed. More than a month after the Skripals were poisoned in Salisbury, a spokeswoman for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs disclosed the fate of the ex-Russian double agent's three animals. Both guinea pigs were found dead at his home in the Wiltshire city, while the cat needed to be put down. When a vet was able to access the property, two guinea pigs had sadly died, the spokeswoman said. A cat was also found in a distressed state and a decision was taken by a veterinary surgeon to euthanise the a...
