The EU’s chief negotiator was speaking at a conference in the Irish border town of Dundalk, where he addressed representatives from across Irish civil society. Home ownership among young families has plummeted across every corner of Britain over the past 35 years, according to a devastating inquiry into the housing crisis facing millennials. Europe could enter a trade war with the US: Angela Merkel

Angela Merkel has suggested Europe could enter a trade war with the US if Washington does not continue to exempt the EU from import tariffs it has placed on much of the rest of the world. The German chancellor said she had the support of both Theresa May and French president Emmanuel Macron. Europe has so far been let off steep aluminium and steel tariffs imposed by the US on countries including China and Canada. But the temporary exemption ends on Tuesday and visits from both Ms Merkel and Mr Macron in the last week appear to have failed to convince US president Donald Trump to extend it. In a statement released on Sunday after she arrived back from Washington, Ms Merkel said Europe was resolved to defend its interests within the multilateral trade framework. Sh...

British Home Secretary resigned within six months delivering reshuffle

Amber Rudd has become the fifth member to leave cabinet to leave within just six months. The former Home Secretary quit her job Sunday evening after coming under increasing pressure over the way her department handles immigration. In a resignation letter to PM Theresa May she admits she inadvertently misled the Home Affairs Select Committee over the issue. Rudd admitted her department had targets for deportations - something she had previously denied - and that she should have been aware of them. Her departure also comes 10 months since June's snap general election where the Conservatives lost their majority in the House of Commons. The first to leave was Defence Secretary Michael Fallon, who resigned his post after being caught up in Westminster sleaze allegatio...
