Man run over 300 times after Underground staff mistook body on tracks for fox

Transport for London are in hot water after mistaking a man’s body for a fox. The tragedy unfolded on December 28 last year, when a Piccadilly Line train stopped automatically at 11.27am after a rear trip switch was activated. A manager went to investigate the incident in the tunnel between Holborn and Russell Square, and reported that a fox carcass was the cause of the alarm. Deciding the ‘animal’ required no urgent attention, trains continued to operate, running over the man’s remains around 300 times. Police weren’t called until 1.42am the following day. The delay meant that by the time officers arrived they had difficulty identifying the man’s body; The Sun reports that they had only fingerprints and a severed foot still in a shoe to work with. When CCTV foo...

Home Secretary fighting to stay in the game after new row

British Prime Minister Theresa May has called an emergency cabinet… Amber Rudd braved a second ferocious Westminster interrogation on Windrush in 24 hours, but inadvertently triggered a new row on Brexit. After a torrid two-hour hearing in front of the Home Affairs Select Committee of MPs, she subjected herself to 40 minutes of questions from political journalists. She refused to say whether she had considered or offered her resignation, admitted Windrush was both a crisis and a fiasco and admitted she was fighting to stay in the game. But she blundered when she was asked if the UK would stay in the Customs Union after Brexit, which Theresa May has ruled out, replying: I'm afraid I'm not going to be drawn on that. We still have a few discussions to be had, in a re...

Kim Jong Un made a new history: North and South Korea took a real step towards peace

With a single step over a weathered, cracked slab of concrete, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un made history Friday by crossing over the world's most heavily armed border to greet South Korean President Moon Jae-in for talks on North Korea's nuclear weapons. Kim then invited Moon to cross briefly back into the north with him before they returned to the southern side. Those small steps must be seen in the context of the last year when the United States, its ally South Korea and the North seemed at times to be on the verge of nuclear war as the North unleashed a torrent of weapons tests but also in light of the long, destructive history of the rival Koreas, who fought one of the 20th century's bloodiest conflicts and even today occupy a divided peninsula that's still...

Donald Trump coming to London on Friday 13th July to meet the Queen

Donald Trump set to meet the Queen when he visits the UK on 13 July. The trip is only being billed as a flying visit rather than an official state one, which would have seen Mr Trump hosted by the Queen. But he is expected to meet Her Majesty either at Balmoral or Windsor. Trump and Theresa May enjoyed a cosy meeting at the White House shortly after his inauguration. Following the visit Mrs May promised Mr Trump a lavish state visit but following outrage and threats of protests that offer has been kicked into the long grass. Trump was previously expected to make a working visit in February, to cut the ribbon on the new US Embassy in London. He pulled the plug on the trip, claiming it was because the Embassy had got a "bad deal" on the new building. But, sources...
